No to violation of right to work
No to mass dismissal
Despite the directives and statements of his majesty the king, his highness the prime minister and the minister of labor on NO DISMISSAL for workers and on appreciation of national workforce, Gulf International Bank dismissed tens of workers with very tiny compensations. After many promises by the officials in the kingdom saying that we are far from impact of the crisis and to preserve the right to work, this mass dismissal is the first sign of change in the labor market using the crisis as a plea.
General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions, GFBTU, has early urged, but without avail, the government to immediately form a tripartite committee to deal with the crisis and examine the real from pretended impact on employers.
The minister declared that the impact is exaggerated and the market is stable. As we remind all with the Minster's statements, we find this wave of mass dismissal started with GIB and followed by other banks, strange and not accepted.
GIB has been financially supported by Saudi's investors with an equivalent to the original issued capital, which contradict with management statements that the bank is under threat of bankruptcy due to the crises.
Herewith, we demand the government and all concerned authorities to return the dismissed bankers or give them real fair compensations that they deserve after this long service in the bank.
GFBTU will launch a big campaign against this attack on the right to work, which is guaranteed by the Constitution and National Charter.
GFBTU call ILO and all international union organizations to stand with Bahrain workers in their struggle to defend their rights of job security, fair compensation and legal protection against mass dismissal.
